Care home 5 staff suspended

Posted by caroldimon on July 10, 2013 at 5:40 AM

According to reports, resident passed away after 24 hours in a coma when staff thought she was asleep.

There are many questions raised by this;

If the home was residential (seems so as owned by LA) there were no nurses (supposedly ). Senior carers are in charge. This raises questions of their training- still under debate by politicians - despite application of Skills for Care which does not guarantee uniformity.Yet many residents are now admitted to residential homes- despite some healthcare needs.

Was the lady left in bed or how did staff return her to bed?

Did she have an unerlying condition eg heart or diabetic?

Were records written and maintained?

Did anybody see her during that time?

What about fluids and pressure care etc.

This situation can actually occur-- even during the night but somebody should not be left for so long. Some day staff use this as a rationale for insisting patients get out of bed in the morning and are woken up.

There are means of checking such as pulse and respiration.
